New Pool for School

March 27, 2004--A school with probably the largest disabled population in the Midlands has officially opened their redeveloped hydrotherapy pool today, with the help of Wolves superstar Steve Bull and Suresh Bawa – Trustee of Promise Dreams.

The project was made possible following funding from a number of sources, including a very generous donation of £10,000 donated to the project from local charity - Promise Dreams. Promise Dreams normally help terminally and seriously ill children and their families turn individual dreams into reality but the charity are no strangers to Green Park School, they previously helped to fund a trip to Euro Disney for 6 of the pupils with severe and profound learning difficulties.

Formerly known as Purple Dreams, Promise Dreams were taken with the plight of Green Park School in Bilston when they were approached by Mary Bond - a voluntary committee member for the school and Promise Dreams felt that this would be an ideal way of helping a number of local children.

Suresh Bawa - Charity Trustee said; "We are delighted that we have been able to help Green Park School with this special project that will not only help children at school but also other community groups who will be able to use the facilities at weekends." "We strongly believe in helping as many people as we can and through this project, we feel that we have contributed to the community in general."

Green Park School in Bilston educate children with learning disabilities and with many of the children having highly complex and sensory impairments, they require strong motivators to encourage them to interact and with the visual effects, sound system and interactive equipment now in place the children are rewarded for any small independent movements they achieve, whilst in the water.

The specialist lighting systems create soft mood lighting through the water and a suspended mirror ball bounces light around the room onto the lightly coloured walls from strategically positioned spot lights.

There are also two projectors with image wheels – one creating rotating patterns, whilst the other shows underwater scenes of dolphins, fish, divers and submarines making it a huge hit with the children.

The music and atmosphere generated by the fog machine can create a mystical and magical experience to relax in, whilst the lighting system can also be set up to change to the rhythm and beat of the chosen music which can be operated independently by the children using a large portable switch box.

Other improvements include; new changing facilities, new moving and handling equipment, new shower units, adaptable toilets and sinks, changing beds that rise and fall to suit the height of different pupils that are completely waterproof, making the children feel more comfortable and drier, the moment they are lifted from the pool.
